Paul Pompa and trainer Pat Reynolds have enjoyed a very successful working relationship. In the last few years Pompa seems to have been lucky when it comes to buying horses. Last year, it was Big Brown that stole the show and had hordes of owners phoning him to purchase Big Brown. He finally sold seventy-five percent of Big Brown to IEAH Stables, but he doesn’t seem as eager to sell his latest eye catching horse racing phenomenon, Well Positioned. Pat Reynolds trains Pompa’s horses, and the combination of natural racing ability and quality training has been paying off.

Retirement to Kentucky Horse Park for Funny Cide

The Kentucky Horse Park is a facility that is dedicated to horses and educating the public on these magnificent animals. Located on a picturesque one thousand two hundred acre piece of land, the Kentucky Horse Park not only hosts horse riding events, it offers demonstrations, exhibitions showcasing horses from across the world, tours through their museums and is home to some of the most legendary thoroughbred racehorses, standardbred horses and various other breeds. At present it is awaiting the arrival of the spectacular Funny Cide.

Meade’s Cheltenham Hopeful

For trainer Noel Meade, the Cheltenham Festival does not hold very fond memories. Over the last few years he has not enjoyed the victories and accomplishments he has been looking forward to, but it seems that he has finally found a horse that might just bring him unrivalled Cheltenham Festival success next year. On Sunday, 23 November 2008, Pandorama secured his fourth victory in four jumps racing starts and his display of ease and comfort makes winning look easy. Hardly looking tired from his race, Pandorama’s jockey had to work hard to slow down the massive engine of this seemingly unstoppable five year old.

Punjabi Creates Big Hopes for Connections

Nicky Henderson is confident that one of his horses, Punjabi, could just be the horse to look out for during the running of the WBX Triple Crown. Not only do each of the three racing events that make up the WBX Triple Crown boast great purses to look forward to, but if a horse should win the Fighting Fifth jumps racing event, the Christmas Hurdle and the Champion Hurdle, there is a very lucrative bonus in store for the horse and its connections. At the moment Henderson is focusing on the Fighting Fifth, which brings him one step closer to the £1million bonus.

China Welcomes Back Horse Racing

When the communist party took control of China in 1949 all forms of gambling, including horse racing, were banned from the country. In 1997, the British ruled region of Hong Kong was returned to the government of China, and here horse racing has become a popular sport. On mainland China, however, the battle to legalize horse racing and wagering has been an ongoing battle. But on Saturday, 29 November 2008, four racing events will be taking place, with small betting amounts being permitted. It is hoped that this could be the start of great things for horse racing, and gambling, in China.

First Win for Knott

All jockeys, whether professional or amateur, win at least a few races during their careers in the horse racing industry. They place a number of times and accept defeat when it comes their way. But for forty-four year old Anthony Knott, defeat is all he has experienced during his career as a jockey, until Thursday, 20 November 2008, when he won his very first horse racing event. Even though Knott might not have enjoyed glory and countless victories, his determination and love for the sport has finally paid off and brought him to his long awaited victory.

Jack o’Lantern Lights up Hollywood Prevue Stakes

Jack o’Lantern was purchased by Purple Shamrock Racing and Bruce Chandler at the 2007 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October sale for $10 500. Trainer Richard Matlow immediately liked Jack o’ Lantern, who was sired by Flatter out of the mare Northern Guide, commenting that he had good dimension and a great walking stride. Matlow’s decision to enter Jack o’ Lantern in the Hollywood Prevue Stakes because he was eligible paid off wonderfully on Sunday 23 November 2008, as jockey Isaias Enriquez steered the beautiful dark bay colt to victory.
