Curlin – Horse of the Year at Eclipse Awards

Just over a year ago no one would have guessed that the beautiful male horse, getting ready for his first racing start, would be outperforming many of his rivals and making a name for himself. Curlin was bred by Fares Farm and was bought after he won a maiden race at Gulfstream Park. He was transferred to the capable hands of trainer, Steve Asmussen, and is currently waiting to continue his training at Fair Grounds.

Blue Diamond Stakes in Australia

The Caulfield Racecourse, in Australia, is located approximately eight kilometers outside of Melbourne. It is affectionately known as “The Heath”, for when racing first started here, in the year 1859, jockeys were forced to navigate their horses through sand, bush and heath. Today the Caulfield Racecourse is one of the top racecourses in Australia, with the new course that was opened in 1996. This course accommodates three racing lengths, namely the 2000 meter, 1800 meter and 1700 meter. It is also home to the Melbourne Racing Club and the prestigious Blue Diamond Stakes.

2007 World Thoroughbred Racehorse Rankings

The World Thoroughbred Racehorse Rankings for 2007 have just recently been released by the IFHA, or International Federation of Horse racing Authorities. Two official rankings are released every year to coincide with all the racing seasons. The IFHA therefore releases a publication in January and in August each year. Racing seasons in some countries run from the 1st of January to the 31st of December, some from the 1st of August to the 31st of July, and South America runs their racing season from the 1st of July to the 30th of June. This month, the International Federation of Horse racing Authorities once again released a publication.

Possible Return of Horse Racing to China

The glitz, glamour and excitement of horse racing has been absent from China since 1949. In a country where gambling is a favorite pastime, many residents in China have resorted to illegal gambling, to partake in a game with Lady Luck. When the communist government came into power in China, many regulations changed, including those related to horse racing, and for years the people of China watched and waited for the day that horse racing would return to their country.

Basin Banannie – Indiana-Bred Horse of the Year

In the world of horse racing, top honors means receiving the Horse of the Year Award. Horses, owners, trainers and jockeys throw their hearts and efforts into every race to perform at their peak and to be able to be contenders at the end of the year awards. 2007 was definitely a wonderful year for M.Y. Stables, which walked away with many of the most prestigious titles. And one of those horse racing victories, was the Indiana-bred, Basin Banannie, being named the Horse of the Year.

Michigan’s ORC 2008 Initiatives

When the ORC, Office of Racing Commissioner, was first established, it was run under the 1933 Racing Act that allowed the ORC to regulate and to authorize pari-mutuel horse racing in the state of Michigan. Today, ruling under the 1995 Horse Racing Law, the ORC is an independent agency that is responsible for the regulations of all the race tracks and ensures that the sport remains fair and fun for all. Some of their duties include appointing veterinarians, appointing stewards, permits, licenses, approving track officials, formal hearings, disciplinary and criminal prosecution and drug testing.
